Two phones from Oppo are the first devices to benefit from the recently launched 5.5G technology.
China Mobile finally announced the commercial launch of its latest connectivity creation, the 5G-Advanced or 5GA, which is widely known as the 5.5G. Prior to its announcement, the tech was expected to debut in late 2024 or early 2025. Despite this, the tech was launched earlier than expected.
This, however, is not the only highlight of the 5.5G launch. After the announcement of 5.5G’s commercial debut, Oppo CPO Pete Lau shared that the company is the first brand to offer the first two 5GA-capable devices in the market: the Oppo Find X7 and Oppo Find X7 Ultra. In the image shared on X, the executive pointed out the ability of the new devices to cater to the latest connectivity.
The connectivity adds to the plethora of interesting details of Oppo’s smartphones, which house the 4nm Mediatek Dimensity 9300 chip (vanilla model) and 4nm Qualcomm SM8650-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (Ultra model).
The news marks the start of the smartphone giants embracing 5.5G. After Oppo, more brands should confirm the arrival of the tech to their respective offerings, especially with China Mobile planning to expand the availability of 5.5G in other areas in China. According to the company, the plan is to cover 100 regions in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou first. After this, it will conclude the move to more than 300 cities at the end of 2024.
