MUMBAI: Tata Power, an electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions provider, has achieved a significant milestone in Mumbai. They have successfully transitioned over 1000 of their EV charging points to be powered by green energy.
“This move is a major step towards promoting sustainable mobility in the city,” a senior spokesperson said on Wednesday. “Mumbai has seen a rapid increase in the number of electric vehicles on its roads, with over 10,000 four-wheelers currently in use. To support this growth, Tata Power has taken the lead in developing a robust EV charging infrastructure across the city.”
Presently, there are more than 1000 green charging points in Mumbai, including 44 public points, 385 in residential societies, 58 in commercial locations such as malls, hotels, and workplaces, and 531 fleet charging points. These strategically placed charging stations ensure convenient access for EV owners.
Furthermore, Tata Power has extended its charging network along major highways, enabling seamless intercity travel for electric vehicle users. They have partnered with companies providing EV charging services, and have installed charging points at well-known residential societies such as Rustomjee Oriana, Rustomjee Elanza, Lodha The Park, Kalpataru Pinnacle, Lodha Primero, and The Reserve by Runwal.
Tata Power has also focused on enhancing intercity travel by installing fast charging points on popular routes. There are currently 19 fast charging points on the Mumbai-Pune highway and 26 on the Mumbai-Goa (via Pune) highway. With a comprehensive network spanning over 475 cities and towns, Tata Power offers a wide range of charging solutions for home users, public and semi-public locations, and bus fleets. They have over 73,000 home chargers, 5,300+ public, semi-public, and fleet charging points, and 690+ bus charging stations.
“Tata Power’s commitment to green energy extends beyond Mumbai. They have plans to install an additional 4000 charging points across Maharashtra in a phased manner. The aim is to not only expand the reach of EV charging infrastructure but also ensure that these facilities are powered by 100% renewable energy sources. This initiative aligns with Tata Power’s ‘Sustainable Is Attainable’ movement and positions them as pioneers in promoting a greener future,” an official said.
“By focusing on renewable energy sources for EV charging, Tata Power is not only facilitating eco-friendly transportation but also setting a benchmark for sustainability in the energy sector. This strategic move is expected to inspire other states to adopt similar green initiatives,” he added.
