‘Will It Last 35 Years?’

  • Teague comments that the fighting sounds in the trailer of the remake are “a little off”.
  • Despite the roughness on set, Teague has fond memories of working with Patrick Swayze and hopes the new stars have the same relationship.

Star of the original Road House, Marshall Teague, has a lot to say about the new remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor, questioning whether the film will stand the test of time. Teague starred in Road House alongside the late Patrick Swayze in 1989, playing Jimmy Reno, Swayze’s nemesis in the movie. Teague also spoke about his relationship with his late co-star, saying that he “misses him every day.”

TMZ caught up with Marshall Teague to get his thoughts on the Road House remake, and while he has yet to see the film, he was able to offer a few comments based on just the trailer. He said that he “hopes it does fine,” but questions whether it will be around in 35 years like the original movie, or if it will just be “an overnight butt-kicker.” Check out Teague’s comments below:

“I think initially it will do fine. I hope it does fine, I really do. The question will be, this is always the question, will it last 35 years? Will it be around 35 years where people are still wanting to watch that particular Road House? Who knows…Time will tell whether this one will make the run, or will it just be an overnight butt-kicker, and people say, ‘Thank you, see you. It doesn’t have the same charm as the first.'”

Turning attention to the new Road House trailer which recently dropped, Teague commented on how he thought the fighting sounds “a little off.” He would later mention that it could be because while in the new movie the sounds of the hits are recorded, in the 1989 original, he and Swayze were actually hitting one another:

“I watched it, and the one thing I found humorous was the sound of the hits. They’re a little off to me…We [he and Patrick Swayze] were hitting. He and I hit each other pretty hard…I tried to take it easy on the others, and he did too, but when it came to he and I, we pole-axed each other, basically, is the word.”

Despite the roughness on the set of the original Road House, Teague has nothing but fond memories of Patrick Swayze. He called it an “honor” to work on the film with him, and he only hopes that Gyllenhaal and McGregor have that same relationship.

“I love him to death, and I miss him every day. He was a great guy. I feel very honored to have had the opportunity to do that film with him, and I hope the two of them have the same relationship. I really do.”

Why Road House Is the Best Action Movie of the ‘80s

Often overlooked, we’re showing why Road House is deserving of the best action movie of the 1980s.

It’s Jake Gyllenhaal Vs. Conor McGregor in the Road House Remake

The new Road House movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal as an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a rowdy bar in the Florida Keys. Conor McGregor, who makes his feature film debut, portrays Knox, Gyllenhaal’s nemesis in the film. The movie also stars Daniela Melchior as Ellie, along with Billy Magnussen, and Jessica Williams. One person who won’t be appearing in the remake is Marshall Teague, who commented that it would be pretty hard to do, given his fate in the original classic:

“As far as me being in the film, no I’m not. I think they look at it from a realistic version. Yeah, it would’ve been great, but realistically speaking, I’m older. These are much younger people. And, besides that, I died. I ripped my throat out. I mean, what do you do with that?”

You can check out the trailer for the remake below, and compare it to the original above.

Road House will premiere on Prime Video on March 21, 2024.
