Xiaomi no longer allows YouTube background playing on its devices to address Google’s concerns helobaba.com
If you have a Xiaomi device, playing YouTube in the background is no longer possible. The reason? The feature is supposed to be an exclusive feature in YouTube Premium.
The function used to be a part of the MIUI system in Xiaomi devices, allowing the famous video-sharing platform to play videos even when the screen is off. However, the feature has been a part of the YouTube Premium service, making its free availability on Xiaomi devices questionable for Google’s business. The Chinese smartphone brand didn’t directly admit the matter, noting that the removal of the function is just all about compliance requirements.
The move was confirmed by Xiaomi on March 7 on its Telegram channel, saying it removed the function to all MIUI devices. Specifically, the function used to work through the “Play video sound with screen off” and “Turn off screen” options of the system. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, the functions are now removed from all devices under Xiaomi. As the company shared, this will be specifically observed in devices running HyperOS, MIUI 12, MIUI 13, and MIUI 14.
