Amy Schumer has been a big name among female comedians in addition to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Most people know her from the Comedy Central sketch comedy series Inside Amy Schumer which has won several accolades.
Outside of TV, the actress found success in films like Trainwreck and I Feel Pretty. Schumer has been open about how trolls on the internet have made fun of her appearance and physical attributes. She is affected by this unjustified hate on her and wants this trend to change.
Amy Schumer Addresses Haters Criticizing Her Appearance
Historically, the industry has not been kind to actresses and has been very particular about their looks and appearances. Although times are changing, the perception of actresses needing to be thin and pretty still lingers in Hollywood. And this is what comedian Amy Schumer finds regressive and annoying.
In an appearance on a recent podcast episode of Not Skinny But Not Fat, Schumer laid out how trolls on the internet continue to body shame her and continue to criticize her that she’s not thin and pretty enough to be a leading Hollywood star.
She feels that she has a right to voice her opinions but points out that people don’t like a woman talking back as it leads to more criticism and mockery. She said,
“It doesn’t feel good when the whole internet’s mad at you. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wish that on anyone if they don’t deserve it, but it’s been a long time that people have been coming for me. It’s just about how I’m feeling about myself.
I think they’re mad that I’m not thinner. I think they’re mad I’m not prettier. I still feel like I have a right to speak. And I think that they don’t want any woman to speak. I mean, what woman has ever opened her mouth and not been torn to shreds?”
Schumer is among the many actresses who face similar humiliation from people criticizing how they look. While changes are surely happening, there is still a long way to go regarding people’s outlook and perception about how actresses should look both on-screen and off-screen.
Amy Schumer Would Love to Play Michael Cera’s Barbie
Before Margot Robbie came out with her 2023 hit Barbie, Amy Schumer was supposed to play Barbie which had a different script, but later dropped out. The actress recently revealed that she would love to play Barbie if a sequel to the 2023 hit was made.
When Entertainment Tonight asked which Barbie she would like to play, Schumer immediately claimed that she would love to be Allan’s (Michael Cera) Barbie. She said,
“Oh my gosh, who’s gonna say no to that? Of course, I would love to be Allan’s Barbie. Yeah, and I think of myself as Allan’s Barbie,”
The two recently reunited on the second season of Life & Beth which premiered on Hulu. It has received positive reviews from critics and audiences. On the film side, Schumer will star in the Netflix comedy Kinda Pregnant which will be directed by Tyler Spindel.
