Summary

  • Frank Grillo reveals to MovieWeb that his next movie is a werewolf film that he describes as “basically
    The Purge
    meets werewolves.”
  • The werewolves in the movie are brought to life using practical effects, which will please fans of the genre.
  • The movie, titled ”
    Werewolves
,” is directed by Steven C. Miller and stars Grillo alongside Katrina Law, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Lou Diamond Phillips.

In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb, action star Frank Grillo revealed that he is currently working on what could be his greatest (if not the greatest) movie of all time: “It’s basically The Purge meets werewolves.” while discussing his latest project, the action thriller Lights Out, we asked The Purge: Anarchy star what he’s working on right now, with Grillo revealing details of his new werewolf movie. And it certainly sounds like it could be an action/horror classic…

“Yeah, I got one coming out called Werewolves about — you guessed it! But Steven C. Miller, who directed it, has gone above and beyond what he’s done in the past and he’s taken his time. They put a lot of money into the post. It’s practical werewolves, it’s a bunch of big guys, seven-footers. It’s basically The Purge meets werewolves, because it’s a night when there’s a supermoon and there’s this kind of disease, and blah, blah blah, just go watch the movie. But I’m really excited for it because it’s been done beautifully. They just finished the sound in Dolby Atmos, and it’s going to theaters. I think it’s going to be in 2000 or 2500 theaters. So, I’m excited for that.”

The idea of “The Purge meets werewolves” is one hell of an elevator pitch, with Grillo revealing that the iconic monsters have been brought to life using mostly practical effects. Something that should please werewolf and horror fans.

The title of the project (which is also listed with the title Year 2 but, according to Grillo, is now titled Werewolves) finds filmmaker Steven C. Miller at the helm. Following two scientists as they try to stop a mutation that turns people into werewolves, the movie stars Katrina Law (Arrow, NCIS), Ilfenesh Hadera (The Bricklayer), and Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns, La Bamba) alongside Grillo.
