God of War 6 Will See Kratos Fight Not One But Multiple Pantheons

God of War Ragnarök released in late 2022 not only to heavy critical acclaim, but also rave reviews from fans. The ninth entry in the mythological series, Ragnarök wrapped up the Norse saga that the 2018 reboot introduced us to. The game ended with Kratos finally letting go of his past title as the God of War, and effectively taking on the mantle of the God of Hope. This was explored further in 2023’s Valhalla DLC.

Meanwhile, his son, Atreus, embarked on a solo journey to find his brotherhood of lost Giants. Ragnarök‘s ending was a beautiful conclusion for Kratos, and teased all-new adventures for Atreus. Since the game’s release, fans have been flooding the internet with theories for where the franchise will take us next, and one Redditor pitched an insane idea.

Multiverse of Pantheons

Redditor u/Radionatix posted a fan theory in the r/GodofWar subreddit that could be considered one of the most thrilling ones we’ve heard so far. Instead of just moving to another pantheon for the next God of War game, the Redditor feels it should feature several pantheons at once. They theorise that the next game could be a globe-trotting adventure, where we see Atreus travel different pantheons looking for the Giants.

Meanwhile, the gods ruling these pantheons would catch wind of the destruction of the Greek and Norse pantheons, and form a coalition against Kratos in a bid to protect their kingdoms. According to the Redditor, “major deities” like Ra, Tuatha Dé Danann, Huitzilopochtli, and many more would join forces and raise a massive army to fight Kratos.

Dissecting The Theory

The theory sounds fabulous on paper, and seeing it in action would be even more exhilarating. The question of which pantheon the next God of War game will explore is a topic that has been under intense debate. The Celtic, Egyptian, Aztec, and Japanese mythologies are among the most-requested by fans for the God of War series to explore.

They were even hinted at by the Norse god of war, Tyr, in Ragnarök and its expansion, Valhalla. If this theory is an accurate predictor of the direction Santa Monica studio might take for God of War 6, then we could see all of these mythologies represented, and every single fan would be happy.

Moreover, including more than one pantheon would send the enemy variety off the charts, as well as deliver tons of incredible, set-piece boss battles. Whether it’s hacking down smaller foes wielding khopeshes, gaesums, and macuahuitls, or fighting gods like Ra, Quetzalcoatl, and Taranis, players would be in for the time of their lives.

The game could also switch protagonists like in Ragnarök between Kratos and Atreus, who’d be far more experienced in the next game. If this theory turns out true, God of War 6 could be the biggest game in the series by far.
