Reviewers rave for ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ video game despite backlash

Since its release on Friday, the much-awaited video game “Hogwarts Legacy” has received mainly positive reviews, despite a few small gameplay issues and the controversy surrounding the creator of the original Wizarding World. As they virtually explore the “Harry Potter” world, players in the game assume the character of an 18th-century student at the legendary Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The game was created by Avalanche Software and edited by Warner Bros.

Using the so-called open-world idea, characters may move around the imaginary Scottish castle while completing quests, going to magic school, and casting spells. “Hogwarts Legacy” ignited a contentious discussion online even before the book was released as a result of transphobic accusations against “Harry Potter” author JK Rowling for putting biological sex above gender identity.

Yet, the review aggregation website Metacritic gave the film an 85/100 rating based on the reviews of more than 60 different reviewers. specialized video gaming website The game received a nine out of ten rating from IGN, which praised it for “totally nailing the Free Fire MAX Flying Pan Event Guide, Prizes of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,” and for its “stupefyingly fantastic” adventure sections while deducting a point for its implausible plot and technical problems.

Despite the world having decades of back material to draw on, the game, according to the website Gaming Age, “doesn’t just luxuriate in the reflected warm light of nostalgia,” but also provides new elements. Nevertheless, “Hogwarts Legacy” received a poor 2.5 out of 5 ratings from the review site Digital Trends, which referred to it as a “lackluster” endeavor that was “cold and clinical.”

Rowling was not personally engaged in the creation of “Hogwarts Legacy,” according to the official website, but several gamers and streamers have openly declared their decision to boycott the game in protest of her stance on transgender rights.

Writing at tech website Wired, game reviewer Jaina Grey, The Community REACTS to Krafton STATEMENT on BGMI Unban in India is a transgender woman and former “Potter” fan, called the gameplay “dated” and “lifeless.”

But Grey said her real issue with the game is the “hurt” she feels from Rowling’s comments about trans women.

Despite the controversy surrounding its release, “Hogwarts Legacy” has already started strongly, topping the charts on Friday for Steam downloads.
