Neve Campbell is Willing to Return to Scream After Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega’s Exit Has the Fans Excited

The fans were shocked when Neve Campbell refused to return in Scream VI as Sydney Prescott. Her popularity as the Scream Queen led her to feature in every film in the franchise except the sixth installment. According to the latest reports, Campbell is open to returning the franchise under the right circumstances. It was already speculated that the studio was eyeing her return to save the film when much of its cast and even the director left the film.

The iconic slasher franchise was subjected to great horror last year as the future of Scream 7 became debatable. After a successful run of Scream (2022) and Scream VI, the fans were almost sure that nothing could stop a Scream 7. However, the film’s future turned bleak after Melissa Barrera was fired, and Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon left the film.

Will Neve Campbell return to save the slasher franchise?

Neve Campbell surprised the audience when she announced that she would not be a part of Scream VI due to salary disputes. She was a fan-favorite for her role as the Scream Queen Sydney Prescott. But the casting of Malessa Barrera and Jenna Ortega in the fifth film received much appreciation and became one of the primary reasons for the sixth part’s success.

However, the studio was subjected to a massive debate when Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream 7 for her social-media statements on the Israel-Hamas war. Soon after her, Jenna Ortega left the iconic franchise for scheduling conflicts with Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2. The latest reports suggest Neve Campbell might be ready to return and save the franchise “under the right circumstances.” She stated to Variety that she wishes to see the franchise continue:

“I honestly don’t have no idea what their plans are. I know a lot has gone on around it and I’m sure they’re spinning a little bit at the moment. These movies mean a lot to us and they mean a lot to the fans. I go to these conventions sometimes and I meet  the fans and they’re frantic about these films. They love them. These films mean a lot to them and these characters mean a lot to them. So even for their sake, I would love to see it continue.”

Fans could not see any future after director Christopher Landon followed Ortega’s footsteps and quit Scream 7. But if Neve Campbell returns to her iconic role, there is still a chance for the franchise to rise again from ruins. Although the fans are still upset over Melissa Barrera’s firing, Neve Campbell’s statement has also raised some excitement.

It can’t be denied that the circumstances do not look much better for Scream 7. Amidst that, Neve Campbell’s possible return to the franchise might be a fruitful update. On the other side, after she departed from Scream 7, Melissa Barrera is all set to be seen in another horror flick, Abigail. It is a unique take on vampire horror and has tremendous potential.
