Vital meeting on security preparations for the G20 in Kashmir today at the home ministry

New Delhi: A vital meeting for the upcoming G20 summit preparations in the union territory is set in the North Block a day before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir. An upper-ranking officer stated that “the ministry is scheduled to assess the current security situation as well as the developmental progress made in various projects.”

The preparations for the G-20 summit meetings to be held in Srinagar in May, the security situation, and the status of different development projects ongoing in the union territory will be among the major topics covered during the meeting, which will be presided over by top Home Ministry officials.

Top officials who are expected to attend the meeting at 5 o’clock include Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta and Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh.

The insider added that the general security situation in Jammu and Kashmir is also on the agenda and that they would examine the current state of preparations for hosting the G20 dignitaries and the locations where the festivities would take place. The G20 summit is scheduled to take place in Kashmir from May 22–25, and the government of the union territory is hard at work securing the high-profile event with special soldiers and anti-drone equipment that have been brought in from New Delhi.

The meeting of the Working Group of Tourism is set to take place in Srinagar on May 23, according to official sources, with the exception of China. The G20 conference will take place on May 23 after the delegates arrive in Srinagar on May 22.

On May 24, the delegates will be transported to popular tourist destinations in Srinagar for sightseeing, including Dal Lake, where they will have a Shikara ride, Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary, and several other key locations, followed by a trip to the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir.
