Shadow of the Erdtree Trailer

There remains no doubt that the new official gameplay trailer for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC brings with itself a whole new list of questions and mysteries, with too many new characters, bosses, and weapons.

However, one of the most prominent features that remained throughout the reveal was the blacked-out Great Tree in the background. It remains undisclosed as to what exactly that tree is, but we have a theory that might speculate its origins accurately.

Reality Of The Great Tree Shown In Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

While nothing remains certain for now, the tree seen in the trailer is allegedly none other than Miquella’s Haligtree, or at the very least is the imitation of it. This can be true as Erdtree is based in the city of Leyndell, which is nowhere to be seen anywhere in the trailer.

Another factor to consider is how the tree shown in the trailer is partially bending and splits into a Y shape, which is a striking difference from the original straight-going Erdtree. The exact nature of the tree remains unknown for now, but a major speculation is how the golden parts present in the tree bark are there for a significant reason that will be revealed later.

As a final prediction, it is also very possible that the Great Tree located in the Land of Shadow turns out to be completely something else than the Erdtree or the Haligtree. This can probably be true, as Hidetaka Miyazaki is known for often introducing non-comprehensive plot twists to his video games from time to time.

What Is Going To Happen In Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

The official gameplay trailer that came out yesterday manages to reveal a lot and nothing at the same time. However, information from the video description as well as official websites has revealed way more about our purpose in the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Set to come out on June 21st this year, the player would need to travel to Mohg’s palace after progressing in the base game, where he would then need to touch Miquella’s hanging arm from the cocoon to get transported to the Land of Shadow.

It is these lands where Miquella departed all those years ago, leaving behind his flesh, powers, and legacy. He awaits the return of a “promised” lord, which seems to be talking about our tarnished character in this case.

There are also hints given in the text that indicate how the Land of Shadow might be set in the past. These are the land where Queen Marika first set foot, and is also where she ascended to godhood by becoming the vessel of the Greater Will.

Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is available to purchase on Steam.
