Sofia Vergara’s Griselda Creator Unfazed by Threats After Getting the Similar Treatment from Escobar Family During Narcos

Sofia Vergara’s new Netflix series, Griselda, has become quite the topic of conversation around the internet. This is not only because it is based on one of the most significant drug lords of all time, Griselda Blanco, but because the network and those behind the project have been sued by Blanco’s family. The reasoning behind her children filing this is that they allege the series to be using the family’s images and likenesses without proper authorization.

Vergara, along with Netflix, and the series creator, Eric Newman, have been named in the lawsuit. While the streaming giant has yet to comment on the matter, both the actress and the film producer have made some statements and it would seem that they are not fazed at all by this.

Griselda Creator Does Not Care About The Lawsuit

Eric Newman recently gave an interview with Entertainment Tonight, alongside Sofia Vergara, where both Hollywood personalities were asked to comment on the lawsuit filed by Griselda Blanco’s children. The film producer did not seem the least bit scared at what this could do for his series, which has just begun its release. He stated this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened to him.

“It’s not my first rodeo. The Escobar family made similar claims [for the TV series Narcos]. We had a very specific story we wanted to tell. I believe we told it, and I don’t think it in any way prevents someone else from telling their own version of it.” said Newman.

Newman was among the executive producers of the iconic crime series, Narcos, which centered around the narcoterrorist and drug lord, Pablo Escobar. He mentioned that when he was working on this series, the Escobar family had tried to do something similar to the Blanco family. This, however, did not phase the production and making of the Pedro Pascal series and the film producer added that he believes that the story that they were trying to tell was done to the best of their capabilities.

Sofia Vergara Was Fascinated And Impressed By Griselda Blanco

Sofia Vergara was next to talk about the lawsuit, stating that the goal of the series is not to portray anyone in a derogatory manner. She had had a very keen fascination with Griselda Blanco from the very beginning. Her main focus was trying to understand the drug lord’s intentions. In this, she also managed to impress the actress.

“I’m trying to understand her from the beginning. I started from being fascinated by her, because she achieved many things that it was impossible for a woman to achieve, even though they were horrific.” said Vergara.

Vergara stated that she was very intrigued by all that Blanco was able to achieve at the time. Not only with the law haunting her but also the fact that she was a woman in a business dominated by men. The actress added that though a lot of what she did was awful, there is no denying the fact that she beat a lot of odds to get where she went to.
