Tekken 8 Director Announces Free Expansions for Characters Set to Arrive ‘between May and Summer’

Tekken 8 officially arrived last year and has been welcomed with a lot of love and encouragement by players. And, if you thought this was all, the game’s director may have a surprise for you. Later this year, players will be enjoying additional character stories, all for free.

The game’s director, Katsuhiro Harada, announced that players can expect a lot of new content in the coming months, and won’t have to worry about paying for any of it. The existing roster will witness new additions, along with individual stories that add to the game’s narrative.

Even more interesting characters, new storylines, and more to come in the future.

At the time of writing, there are 32 playable characters in the game. Every character has a unique personality and moveset that may take you months (even years!) to master. After all, Tekken 8 builds on the franchise’s roots as one of the most engaging fighting games ever made.

And, if you thought that was plenty, Katsuhiro Harada’s recent statement might just make you love the game even more. According to his recent tweet, the game will be getting several new characters with their own storylines. Not only does this add more content to the game, but it also keeps the existing roster feeling fresher and more competitive.

The expansion to the story mode, The Dark Awakens will focus on Eddy, along with other characters. Some of which are yet to be introduced to players. In light of this, the free expansion will add new playable personalities along with their stories to the roster.

The expansion will focus on both; new character arcs and improving the roster.

On Steam alone, the reviews for the game have been ‘Very Positive’, with a stable concurrent player count. Moreover, opinions around the game’s success often point to how the franchise tries new things while also keeping traditional things active and recurring.

This keeps the older player base satisfied with what they know while challenging them with new mechanics. At the same time, new players who might have been intimidated by the genre before, try their hands at something out of their comfort zone.

Thanks to the game’s focus on a rich storyline, Tekken 8 often sways around the idea of an arcade experience driven by a solid single-player campaign. An expansion that focuses more on this aspect is nothing but great news.

The upcoming expansion will likely introduce characters that aren’t too off-the-grid. Moreover, these new faces will stick to Tekken 8’s formula of mixing clever fighting mechanics with faithful stories.
