The Last Airbender Movie Director Ropes in Oppenheimer Actor for His Next Bizarre Movie

While Josh Hartnett witnessed a notable spike in his career in the 2000s after starring in Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down, he kind of disappeared from the Hollywood limelight in the 2010s.  But the actor finally marked his big comeback with Christopher Nolan’s critically and commercially acclaimed Oppenheimer, which saw him playing the Nobel Prize winner Ernest Lawrence.

And it appears the actor has no intentions of slowing things down, as for his next outing, he will be appearing in Avatar: The Last Airbender director’s upcoming new horror, Trap.

Josh Hartnett Describes His Upcoming Horror as Dark and Bizarre

Since returning to the mainstream landscape with Guy Ritchie’s Wrath of Man in 2021, Josh Hartnett has no plans to slow down and is set to carry on with the momentum he garnered from Oppenheimer. And for the next addition to his filmography, the actor has joined forces with horror auteur M. Night Shyamalan, whom he deemed one of the best directors he has worked with. Reflecting on the upcoming horror, Trap, starring Saleka Shyamalan, the actor deemed it very dark and bizarre, which seems par for the course for M. Night.

Appearing at the SAG Awards, he said (via IndieWire):

“Working with M. Night was one of the best kind of experiences of my career… I think people are gonna be really surprised by the movie we made. It’s very bizarre and very dark and it’s wild. So, I hope you enjoy it.”

While M. Night Shyamalan has a habit of creating as many underwhelming mishaps as acclaimed classics, fans will hope the upcoming Josh Hartnett-led horror is more in line with the latter.

Josh Hartnett on Oppenheimer’s Success This Award Season

Apart from commenting on his upcoming horror, Josh Hartnett also took the opportunity to commend his costars and crew members from Oppenheimer, which has been dominating this award season. With Hartnett himself being nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category along with his costars, the actor stressed it’s better than he could imagine. Hartnett said: (via E!)

“Being in the film with these other actors and just Chris deciding to choose me to play this role was the winning goal. We had a fun time making the film and then for it to be so phenomenally received and to have it be nominated by our peers for acting categories, across the board, is great… All my costars getting individuals and then us being nominated for a cast,” he reflected, “It’s phenomenal. I mean, it’s better than we could have imagined.”
