The long-awaited trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine debuted during the Super Bowl on Sunday and while it didn’t give away all of its surprises, it did reveal that a former X-Men actor would be making an appearance in the film, which was then confirmed on his Instagram page. Aaron Stanford, who portrayed John Allerdyce/Pyro in X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand, took to his Instagram after the trailer was released to post a picture of himself presumably from the set of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Judging from the image, he’s wearing the same costume that he’s seen wearing in the trailer and some makeup to dirty up his looks. Alongside the picture, Stanford wrote, “Welly welly welly well. If it isn’t our old Droogie Pyro… #deadpool3 #pyrosback.” You can check out the post below!

Aaron Stanford Made His Marvel Debut in X2: X-Men United

When Pyro was introduced in the second X-Men film, he was depicted as a friend of Bobby Drake/Ice Man (Shawn Ashmore) and Rogue (Anna Paquin) with extreme anti-social tendencies. He has the ability to manipulate fire, although he can’t physically create it. Because he walks the line of not feeling entirely included with his other junior X-Men, he’s easily persuaded by the end of the film to take off with Magneto (Ian McKellen) and Mystique (Rebecca-Romijn) to join their Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

Marvel fans have scoured over the new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, with all manner of teases, hints, and Easter eggs now revealed…

In the third film, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, Pyro is a full-fledged member of the Brotherhood and has fully been allowed to explore his powers. As a student at Xavier’s School for Gifted Mutants, he believed his potential was stifled but now, under Magento’s leadership, he can truly be who he was meant to be. His grudge against Bobby is escalated a bit further in the movie until they go head-to-head in a battle of fire and ice during the climax of the film.

The Deadpool & Wolverine trailer recently broke the record for the most amount of views in its first 24 hours with it being watched a staggering 365 million times. The initial spot premiered during the Super Bowl, which was the most-watched telecast in history with 123.7 million viewers tuning in. Soon after its launch during the big game, the full trailer was released online.

Deadpool & Wolverine features the return of Ryan Reynolds as “The Merc With a Mouth” alongside the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. His return signals a sort of multiverse story at play in the third Deadpool film, as Jackman’s Wolverine was in the 20th Century Fox X-Men movies before Disney/Marvel acquired the rights. Stanford returning as Pyro in some capacity is hugely significant, as it likely hints that fans will get many more cameos from 20th Century Marvel characters.

Deadpool & Wolverine
hits screens on July 26.
