NAGPUR: One of India’s biggest maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) – AAR Indamer Technics – plans to double capacity at its Nagpur facility within five years with a capex of over Rs 600 crore. It also plans to become the first major Indian MRO to enter the component repair shop space for commercial airliners. It eventually aims to have a final assembly line for helicopters and fix wing aircraft.
Indamer group director Prajay Patel said, “Our Nagpur SEZ facility (located next to the airport) currently has four hangars which, along with the entire infrastructure, was built in 2021 at a cost of about Rs 450 crore.We will be building six more hangars in phase II and III for which we will invest upwards of Rs 550-600 crore. The capacity will be tripled and we will provide MRO service for wide body aircraft also.”
The MRO completed the major check (C check) for its 100th aircraft, an IndiGo Airbus A320, on Friday. “We will start component repair this year,” Patel said. The facility has 30 acres at Nagpur SEZ of which 15 acres has currently been developed. While Indamer Aviation is India’s oldest general aviation MRO, AAR Corp is USA’s largest independent MRO. Indamer has 17 stations in India and maintains 27 variants of helicopter and fixed wing Aircraft.
AAR Indamer is currently maintaining Airbus aircraft and will soon be working on Boeing, too. “In 2024, our focus is on further developing phase I of the facility through major component repair capability. This includes specialised repair capabilities for Thrust Reversers and Nacelles,” said Patel.
