Despite Lack of Confirmation, Mary Elizabeth Winstead Has Her Arms Open for a Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Sequel
2023 was blessed with a reboot of the Scott Pilgrim world. Adapted from cartoonist Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim comic series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was the fan-favorite anime show of the year. After over a decade, 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World ensemble cast reunited with showrunner O’Malley, executive producer BenDavid Grabinski, and animator Abel Gongora in 2023.
Although, will the show get a possible Season 2 or be concluded as a mini-series is still to be figured out. However, two of the lead stars from the show, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ellen Wong teased the possibility of a sequel season that sparked hope among fans.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ellen Wong have their fingers crossed
Season 1 of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off concluded with its final episode airing in November 2023. A month later, Ramona Flowers star Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Knives Chau’s Ellen Wong sat for an interview on reprising their beloved characters and hoping for a sequel season. Talking to Screen Rant, the 39-year-old actress expressed her admiration and thrill for the cast and plot of the show.
However, she was concerned with the writers being able to come up with an equally engrossing story for the sequel season. While she would love to continue as Ramona Flowers, matching the standards set in Season 1 would be tough, as per the star. Winstead told ScreenRant,
“We would be so excited to continue to be a part of it in some way, but it is sort of like, “What could that story be?” That’s still a question mark, I think.”
Likewise, Ellen Wong also chimed in lauding BenDavid and Bryan Lee O’Malley’s ingenuity. Entrusting complete faith in the latter’s creativity, Wong added,
“And so much of this is their brains—BenDavid and Bryan, especially Bryan—that I almost want to just be like, ‘You tell me what to do, and I’ll do it. You tell me where Knives is going and I’ll go’ So, I agree, and I echo everything Mary is saying.”
Apart from that, both actresses were elated to have reunited on the sets of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off once again and seemed eager to continue doing it in the future.

A tight-knitted cast of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
By now it’s clear that the ensemble cast was more than happy to star in the 2023 reboot of the anime show. Surprisingly, contacting them after a decade-long hiatus wasn’t a problem for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World director Edgar Wright. According to Tudum, Wright disclosed that an existing email group of the 2010 film was never disbanded. It included all the cast members and crew and thus, reaching out to them was only a click away. He told Netflix,
“One of the most beautiful aspects of making Scott Pilgrim is, some 14 years since we made the film, we are all still friends and see each other whenever we can.”

Thus, when the idea of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off materialized, the 49-year-old director simply dropped an email in the group, inquiring about any interest in character reprisals from the members. Naturally, the enthusiasm-filled responses from the cast resulted in the compelling Netflix show’s success. Fans, crew, and even the cast, all are hoping for the slacker Scott Pilgrim to return with fresh adventures in Season 2. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is available for streaming on Netflix.
