Following the success of The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, Lifetime has revealed it’s producing a new docuseries which will chronicle the life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her husband, Ryan Anderson, following Gypsy’s release from prison. Blanchard was released from confinement on December 28, 2023, after serving eight years of her 10-year prison sentence for her part in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. She was charged with second-degree murder, while her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, received life in prison without parole after stabbing Dee Dee 17 times.

News of the new Lifetime docuseries came by way of a press release from the network on February 5. As per Variety, the press release reiterates the fact that Gypsy Rose was a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, suffering for years at the hands of her mother. The new series will follow Gypsy as she navigates her life as a free woman for the first time:

“As a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, Gypsy was abused for years by her mother and has lived her entire life in one prison or another…until now. The series follows Gypsy as she experiences life as a free woman, including finally living with her husband Ryan Anderson for the first time.”

Since her release from prison, Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s life has been under the microscope as she grapples with her newfound celebrity. While incarcerated, she managed to amass 1.2 million followers on Instagram, and that number has soared to more than 8 million after her release. She’s become a pop culture icon who’s been followed everywhere from the grocery store to an AEW wrestling event she recently attended. The official synopsis for the new Lifetime docuseries reveals that Gypsy will have to reconcile the celebrity version of herself, and the free woman she’s become:

“In this delayed-coming-of-age story, Gypsy must reconcile the pop-culture, celebrity version of herself while trying to forge her brand-new identity in a ‘normal’ world as wife, sister, daughter and most of all — a free woman.”

In a statement from Elaine Frontain Bryant, Lifetime’s EVP and head of programming, she said that millions of people are invested in Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s story, and want to see what comes next. She would go on to claim that everyone is “rooting” for Gypsy to embrace life. Check out her full statement below:
