Initial Box Office Predictions for Guardians of the Galaxy 3

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s initial box office predictions have arrived, and they might not be as impressive as many had anticipated. Recently, Marvel Studios hasn’t had much success at the movie office. The MCU’s 2023 got off to a rocky start with the highly unfavorable reception to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The third installment of the franchise is expected to gross between $470 million and to 540 million worldwide, significantly less than Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)’s $622.6 million. At the moment, the movie has a global box office total of $473.4. Just how much better will James Gunn’s next Marvel Studios sequel perform?

Projections for the box office for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

Marvel

Box Office Pro predicts that Vol. 3 will earn between $120 and $155 million domestically in its first weekend and between $288 and $403 by the conclusion of its run as a theatre release. In contrast, the original Guardians movie made $94.3 million in the United States over its opening weekend and $333.7 million overall. When The Super Mario Bros. Movie Start Streaming

Domestically, Vol. 2 performed significantly better, earning $146.5 million in its opening weekend and $389 million overall. On both ends of the forecasts for Vol. 3, the highly anticipated movie is expected to earn more than Quantumania domestically, which debuted to a strong $106 million three-day weekend but won’t nearly breach $220 million in total. This is not surprising considering the popularity of the franchise.

Here’s how the other most recent MCU movies have fared on their domestic opening weekend:

  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: $181 million
  • Thor: Love and Thunder: $144 million
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: $187 million
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home: $260 million
  • Eternals: $71 million
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: $75 million

Will Guardians Follow the Recent Superhero Trend?

Many undoubtedly anticipated a more explosive performance given that Vol. 3 is the highly anticipated finale to Gunn’s tenure with the characters and this particular incarnation of the titular squad as a whole. But, it’s not surprising that the MCU’s momentum isn’t at full speed given the general public’s growing fatigue from Marvel Studios’ streak of products with subpar quality.

Marvel Studios is not the only superhero studio that has experienced issues with the success of its endeavors. Shazam! Fury of the Gods just had a bumpy premiere. The film not only failed to impress reviewers, but it also had one of the worst DCEU debuts ever. Huge Cast of The Mandalorian Crossover Film Teased by Producer

The Birds of Prey sequel, which has held the position at the bottom of the list since 2020 with a $4 million debut, grossed more money than the Zachary Levi-starring sequel’s $3.4 million on its opening night. The movie Fury of the Gods has made $56 million domestically and $123 million globally since its premiere on March 17.

How Vol. 3 does critically will be one important component that will make or break its performance. A negative or even merely average response will support the pattern of subpar performance, but overwhelming optimism may bring about the success it merits.
